Description
Dental excavators are small, spoon-shaped hand tools used to scoop out soft, decayed tooth material. Dentists use them to safely clean out cavities before filling, or to remove debris from root canals. They have a sharp curved tip that helps protect healthy tooth enamel.
These instruments usually come as double-ended tools with tiny cup shapes on each side, measuring between 1 mm and 2 mm. They work just like a tiny metal spoon scooping soft dirt (decayed dentin) out of a hard hole.
