Description

An orthodontic bracket height gauge is a measuring tool used during direct and indirect bracket bonding to ensure consistent vertical placement from the incisal edge of each tooth to the center of the bracket slot.
Common Measurements
Gauges typically feature dual-sided, color-coded, or engraved measurements. Standard markings include:
  • Anterior teeth: 3.5 mm to 4.0 mm
  • Bicuspids & Cuspids: 4.0 mm to 4.5 mm
  • Molars: 4.5 mm to 5.0 mm
How to Use
  1. Prepare: Select the gauge that corresponds to your bracket slot size (usually 0.018 or 0.022 inches).
  2. Align: Place the flat base of the gauge on the incisal edge of the tooth.
  3. Insert: Insert the thin tine at the desired millimeter measurement into the bracket slot.
  4. Position: Hold the gauge strictly perpendicular (about 90°) to the long axis of the tooth to avoid placement errors.
